What is an FSA ID?
An is a secure username and password used to access the U.S. Department of Education online services at . It allows you to:
- Complete and manage your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
- Access and submit other federal financial aid documents
Who Needs an FSA ID?
Each individual involved in the federal student aid process must create their own FSA ID. This includes:
- Students (both undergraduate and graduate)
- Student spouse (if applicable)
- Parents of dependent students
- Parent spouse (if applicable)
Important: For security and privacy, your FSA ID must not be shared with anyone. Each person must create and maintain their own unique FSA ID.
How to Create Your FSA ID:
- Visit and click “Create Account” at the top right of the webpage
- Follow the step-by-step instructions
- Use a unique email address for each FSA ID
- Carefully enter your legal name, date of birth, and social security number exactly as they appear on federal records
