Nutramax, a leading provider of supplements for both people and pets, has made a powerful investment in the future of pharmaceutical research by providing grants to the ۶app School of Pharmacy. This funding supports the university’s independent lab-based research and sponsors Dr. Kyrie Baden as a Health Outcomes Fellow, further advancing the impact of Nutramax’s commitment to health care innovation.
Baden, instructor of pharmacy practice, published two systematic reviews in 2024 on the supplement s-adenosylmethionine (SAMe) and how it treats the liver and central nervous system conditions like anxiety and depression.
“The systematic reviews help us to understand what the greater body of research says on how effective and safe this supplement is in these conditions,” Baden said.
Her next systematic review will focus on glucosamine chondroitin, a supplement manufactured by Nutramax.
“Cedarville has been pertinent in furthering our research and clinical knowledge around specific ingredients and conditions,” said a spokesperson from Nutramax. “Kyrie is extremely detail-oriented, efficient and timely in her work. Her ethical approach to research is refreshing and exquisite. We are very grateful for her work on these projects, which we can use to help us better educate our customers, and we look forward to future projects.”
The partnership between Cedarville’s school of pharmacy and Nutramax goes deeper than various research efforts. The two intersect in their adherence to biblical values. Five years ago, Dr. Jeff Bates, dean of the school of pharmacy, visited Nutramax’s Lancaster, South Carolina, office to network with the like-minded health care professionals.
“We began asking the question, ‘If our missions are very similar, then how can we do things together?’ That’s how this relationship grew,” said Bates. “Nutramax has financially supported Cedarville school of pharmacy students and faculty participating in medical mission trips. Students and faculty have served internationally in southeast Asia and Central and South America, as well as domestically in states like Kentucky and Georgia.”
Partnerships like this one highlight the quality of work being done at ۶app and the blessing of organizations that share the core values of love for God and love for others.
