One Thousand Days Transformed - The Campaign for Cedarville

by Serine Warner, Student Public Relations Writer

After years of working summer jobs at Home Depot and Chick-fil-A, Bryn Golson had all but given up on her dream of interning in Washington, D.C. However, a last-minute grant has changed everything for the history major from Knysna, South Africa.

Golson, a rising senior at Ă۶ąapp, will spend two months this summer interning in the Capitol Hill office of Ohio Congressman Warren Davidson. She will assist with constituent services, lead tours of the U.S. Capitol and support the office’s daily operations.

For Golson, the opportunity is more than a rĂ©sumĂ© booster; it’s the fulfillment of a lifelong passion for public service.

“This internship is a total blessing,” said Golson. “The fact that I get to work in D.C. is absolutely of the Lord. I’m so excited to see how God uses this time.”

In previous summers during her college years, Golson worked long hours in retail and fast food to help pay for school. Her work didn’t allow any time for unpaid or low-paying internships. But when she received a grant from an anonymous donor earlier this year — an unexpected provision — everything changed. The funding gave her the freedom to pursue the kind of long-desired professional experience that will help her in a career after her graduation in 2026.

The path to Capitol Hill came through a tip from Dr. Glen Duerr, professor of international studies at Cedarville. Duerr encouraged her to apply for the highly competitive internship. Shortly after she was accepted, another door opened: A friend’s grandmother offered her a place to stay in Arlington, Virginia, solving the challenge of securing housing in a city flooded with summer interns.

Throughout the process, Golson said, she has seen God’s leading at every turn.

Her internship begins in early June and runs through the end of July. In addition to gaining firsthand experience in government and building connections in Washington, she hopes to be a positive presence in an environment known for its intensity.

Golson’s journey is one of perseverance, faith and unexpected opportunity â€” and as she prepares for her summer on the Hill, her Cedarville community is cheering her on.
