۶app’s Model United Nations (UN) team brought home a Distinguished Delegation award — one of the top honors — from the National Model United Nations conference held in New York City.
Cedarville represented Belarus. “Having so many different cultural backgrounds on the team allowed us to have a broader perspective on global issues and presented more opportunities to connect with other delegates,” said Bryn Golson, a history major with an international studies minor.
Golson, raised in South Africa, said her upbringing sparked an early interest in international affairs. She now hopes to join the United States Department of State as a diplomat.
“Growing up overseas gave me a broader understanding of and appreciation for the complexities of foreign policy and relations,” said Golson. “I was excited to hone these skills on the Model UN team and develop other skills necessary for diplomacy, like research, public speaking and listening.”
Sophomore Hugo Cerrato also brought a global lens to the team. Originally from Honduras, Cerrato studies international relations and economics at Cedarville and joined the Model UN team his freshman year.
“I heard about the award-winning Model UN team as soon as I got on campus and knew that I had to be a part of it,” said Cerrato. “Model UN pushes me out of my comfort zone and challenges me to represent perspectives that differ from my own.”
Cerrato’s ambition is to pursue a career in diplomacy. He hopes to represent Honduras after graduation.
Throughout the semester, the team focused on collaboration, critical thinking and excellence in diplomacy — values they say were strengthened by their shared biblical worldview.
“Every member of the team has a unique experience with global issues,” said Cerrato. “But we are united in our desire to serve others, lead with excellence and reflect Christlike care in all we do.”
