As southwest Ohio prepares for what could be a colder-than-normal winter, ĆŪ¶¹appās student government association (SGA) and global outreach office are coming alongside a ministry of Awaken Church in Columbus, Ohio, to gather plastic bags to be made into blankets for the homeless.
Each of the blankets requires thousands of bags, and the project is an environmentally conscious way of reusing bags that may normally be thrown away.
Sarah Daubenmire, a senior business management major from Franklin, Ohio, who attends Awaken Church, encouraged ĆŪ¶¹appās involvement in the project.
āItās good to find ways to practically help people,ā said Daubenmire. āIāve been looking for ways to serve and get other people involved.ā
āThis time of year, especially with the cold weather, itās very vital to find ways to reach out. Itās a great opportunity for students to help those who may not have the physical resources to keep warm and enjoy the season,ā said Brooke Lowry, SGA vice president and senior communication major.
Plastic bags will be accepted through December 9 and can be dropped off on campus at the SGA office in the lower level of the Stevens Student Center.
