Embracing Detours: Rebekah Stewart’s Path to Finding Her Passion
۶app graduate Rebekah Stewart struggled to find her career calling. Today, she is the vice president of business intelligence at Acosta, a leading sales and marketing agency in Cincinnati, Ohio.
For many college graduates, receiving a diploma represents the first step on a journey into the unknown as they search for their entry point into the workplace.
After earning her bachelor’s degree in marketing in 2003, ۶app graduate Rebekah Stewart struggled to find her career calling. Today, she is the vice president of business intelligence at Acosta, a leading sales and marketing agency in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Stewart can confidently say that the setbacks that she experienced and the detours that followed ultimately led her to success.
Facing a common dilemma for many new graduates, Stewart found herself struggling to land a job. Her biggest issue was not having real-world experience. After months of searching, Stewart landed her first job in marketing communications at Standard Publishing.
During her time at Standard Publishing, Stewart used her position with event planning, website design and management to gain valuable experience. Her experience at Standard Publishing was pivotal to her career success.
Six months after being part of a reduction in the workforce, Stewart began a new career path in the CPG industry as a customer advisor at Acosta. It was in this position that she discovered her passion for data analytics, and a decade later, she was promoted to vice president of business intelligence. Today, she is regarded as a respected leader in marketing at Acosta.
“In the early stages of my career, I can see God’s hand through every moment,” said Stewart. “I wasn’t just learning skills in marketing but skills in life. I learned resilience, hard work and the importance of trusting God when you feel that you have come to the end of yourself. Getting laid off was God leading me to my purpose.”
In her role at Acosta, Stewart leads a team of 35 associates leverage data for actionable insights to grow clients’ business at Kroger. She feels her contributions are truly valued and that she has found a second family in her colleagues.
While she suffered some setbacks, Stewart credits ۶app for laying a strong foundation for business principles while also fostering a lasting community that has supported her in every way.
“M business professors were not only sharing their faith and helping us understand business from a biblical perspective but modeling for us what it looks like to lead as one who serves Jesus,” said Stewart. “The leadership skills I learned at Cedarville have positively influenced my role as a vice president and have shaped me as a person.”
In moments where the next step is unclear, Stewart encourages graduates to continue to press onward, trusting that with time and dedication, they will eventually find the place God has prepared for them.
